James Mercer Langston Hughes
James Mercer Langston Hughes (1901–1967) was a pivotal American poet, novelist, and playwright who emerged as a primary leader of the Harlem Renaissance. Known as the "Poet Laureate of Harlem," Hughes dedicated his life to documenting the joys, struggles, and resilient spirit of the Black community.
Why Langston Hughes?
Our organization taking his name is a tribute to his vision of equality, progress, and his lifelong challenge to ensure that the deferred dreams of marginalized communities could finally take root. By building sustainable, affordable housing, we provide the physical foundation necessary for those dreams to flourish.
